Solve a Rubiks Cube Blindfolded

Something I learned to do a few years back was to solve a Rubiks Cube. Pretty cool huh? In fact, I didn’t just stop at the regular Rubiks, I even learned to solve this behemoth:

Learning to solve a Rubiks cube is easy, and I maintain that ANYONE can do it! Give yourself 2hrs or so, and you’ll have the algorithms memorised that can solve the cube from ANY messed up state.

My new challenge has been to learn to solve a Rubiks cube blindfolded.

“Impossible!” you say.

Nope, its actually very possible, in fact, the current world record to solve a rubiks cube blindfolded is set at 17.87 seconds which also includes the time taken to memorise the cube! INSANE! Here’s a video to when a previous world record was broken.

My goal is to be able to memorise and solve the cube within 5 minutes, which should be easily achievable with practice. I haven’t yet had a complete solve, the closest I’ve gotten is to have everything except for 2 edge pieces in the correct place which I was pretty chuffed with.

I’ve been focusing on a method called Old Pochman as outlined on this page.

I learned & practiced the various Algorithms so that i don’t have to think about them. Now, the challenge is to work on my memorisation technique so that I know where I’m swapping each piece to.

I’m going to update this page with my attempts, successes & fails so stay tuned!
